There are a number of ways students (PhD, Master and Honours), researchers, clinicians and families can get involved in the CRE.

Applying for CRE funding

The CRE will provide a select number of full scholarships and top-up scholarships for PhD and Masters students undertaking projects aligned with the priorities of the CRE. A small number of Seeding Innovation grants will also be available for CRE scholars. All funding will be awarded on a competitive basis.

Potential topics for research projects

The CRE is committed to supporting researchers from clinical and non-clinical backgrounds. The CRE Investigators strongly encourage students and early career researchers either interested in or with an existing project aligned with the below topics or one of the CRE priority areas to apply for scholarships and funding.   • Co-design of enhanced lactation support strategies in the NICU
  • Supporting Aboriginal families with a baby in the NICU to provide breast milk
  • Safety and efficacy of pasteurised donor human milk for preterm infants
  • Optimising DHA intake among preterm infants

Terms and Conditions
  • Acknowledge the support/contribution of the CRE in Human Milk Nutrition for Preterm Infants (scholarship provider) when publishing or presenting material that relates to the research project.
  • Provide a short-written report about your project, for use on the CRE website, newsletter, and other
    communications.
  • Contribute to the communication updates for CRE stakeholders.
  • Complete a conflicts of interest declaration.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Meet entry criteria to enrol in a PhD or Masters degree with a substantial research component
  • Full time or part time enrolment (pro-rata amount of scholarship)
  • Undertake research aligned with one of the CRE Priority Areas
  • Located in Australia for the duration of the scholarship (domestic students only)
  • Primary Supervisor must be a Chief Investigator or Associate Investigator of the CRE
Selection Criteria

All scholarship applicants will be reviewed by the Career Development Committee. The selection criteria used for the assessment of the scholarship applicants will include:

  • Quality and feasibility of the proposed project
  • Degree of alignment with aims of CRE Priority areas.
  • Curriculum vitae and academic transcript, including any relevant career disruptions to be taken into account

Eligibility Criteria
  • Early to Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR), where EMCR is defined as within 15 years of gaining PhD with
    allowance for career disruptions
  • In lieu of PhD, career experience as a clinician working with preterm infants or early life nutrition.
  • Undertake research aligned with one of the CRE Priority Areas

Selection Criteria
